New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, experienced a refreshing moment with Kanye West while he preached and ministered at the church, some of his most powerful words were captured while he ministered:
“You [God] sent Your Son to die for us and all you ask is for radical obedience.” He went ahead to encourage the congregation not to be concerned with the opinions of men at all, only the opinion of God.
The 42-year-old rapper talked and rapped during a 10 minute sermon about ‘radical obedience’ to God while fellow musicians such as T.I., Chris Tucker and 2 Chainz made up part of the crowd.
‘Jesus, let’s be specific,’ Kanye began the 10-minute sermon to the hundreds of attendees.
‘Because the road to hell is paved with, “Oh, I’m just a good person”.’
The father-of-four continued his spiel by performing his new hit, Jesus Walks, accompanied by a 600-person choir.
Kanye went on to preach about ‘radical obedience,’ something which he explained was the only thing that the higher power asks of us.
‘You [God] sent Your Son [Jesus] to die for us and all You ask is for radical obedience to You.’
‘You’re not asking us to do the least. You know how people are like, how are we gonna do the least when he did the most?’
Kanye went on to say he had no doubt in the work of God, seeing how he helped him through his public struggle with mental health.
‘I’ve seen him work miracles in my life. Work miracles in our lives,’ he began.
‘You know the devil presents so many flashy shiny objects. I’ve seen everything that the devil could have showed you via TV, videos, car dealerships, jewelry, houses…’
He continued, breaking into song: ‘…and I’ll tell you, nothin’ beats God… and a sound mind.’
As the choir repeated his words in the background, Kanye returned to preacher mode where he said ‘to be radically in service to Christ’ was the only thing he wanted to focus on.
‘Let’s not be concerned with the opinions of men at all,’ he began.
‘Only the opinion of God. Let’s not be concerned with the validation of men at all, only of God, to hold each other accountable.
‘I know we say this is the culture or that is the culture. To be radically in service to Christ is the only culture that I want to know about.’
While over half-way through the sermon, the Gold Digger rapper thanked the heavens for bringing him to Atlanta – the place his parents met and he was born.
‘Thank you for saving me, for replenishing me, for delivering me,’ he praised.
Speaking directly to God he continued: ‘When I found out about you…I got closer to my children. I got closer to my family, ’cause the devil had me chasing a gold statue, had me chasing cars, had me chasing numbers.’
Kanye explained when he first began his music career in Chicago, he didn’t even know what the Billboard charts were, but he said that all changed when he grew older and he was drawn into the number of sales and positions of his tracks on the music charts.
‘The power of God cannot be calculated by a number, a first week sale, by a bank account, by how many cars you drive, by how big your house is, how many acres you get.’
‘It’s God inside of us. It’s God inside of family. It’s God inside of friendship that we hold each other accountable. If you see somebody slipping, you tell them. They be coming at me like why are you so judgmental. It ain’t for me to judge, but I’m gonna tell them what I see.’
Kanye also said the devil frequently accuses him of ‘speaking up so much,’ but in his eyes, he’s ‘just pointing to the Word.’
The husband of Kim Kardashian finished off his 10-minute speech by opening up about a family member who’s been given a second chance at life and is dating a beautiful woman.
He explained while everything is all laid out for him the real reason he ‘won’t get the ring and get right with God’ is because he’s ‘still in them DMs.’
